Wi-Fi stands for Wireless Fidelity. Wi-Fi is technically known as IEEE 802.11 (however we don't use this name in our day-to-day life). It is a telecommunication technology that uses radio waves to send and receive digital signals.
How Does Wi-Fi Work?
A Wi-Fi uses radio waves to work, just like radios or cellphones. The wireless adapter inside router translates data into radio signals and creates waves around it which keep on spreading in the area near it. As we know a computer understands a language of 0 and 1, so the waves are also in this format (there are different frequencies of waves depending upon the speed of internet and the distance). Then the device receives signals(waves) and decodes it. This process also works in reverse in wired routers which are physically connected to internet through modems.
Scientific reports have said that the Wi-Fi waves do not harm human body as they are of very low frequencies.
Wi-Fi is a form of telecommunication that transmits data wirelessly using radio waves. This enables devices to get connected together locally. You can send and print documents from your computer without even needing to be connected to the web.
The internet, on the other hand, is a global network of computers that use the Internet protocol of IP address to link devices worldwide. You can know more on this here.
