How Does Your Computer Store Data? What Is RAM? What Is ROM?

You must be familiar with the term data. Data is any kind of information that can be stored. A bit is a basic unit of memory or Information that is stored. Basically, memories are of 2 types: RAM(Random Access Memory) and ROM(Read Only Memory).

RAM is volatile memory, this means that
the information is temporarily stored in the module and it gets erased when you restart or shut down your computer. This happens because the information is stored electrically on transistors.
For example, when you are typing, the data of letters that you press is instantly available and is executed. But suppose in between the power supply goes off then that memory gets cleared and the whole process begins again when you restart your computer.

ROM on the other hand is non-volatile memory, meaning the information in it is permanently stored on the chip. The information stored in it doesn't change or gets erased depending on power supply. This is because the data is stored in the memory cells of computer in form of bits. A bit can only be of two forms ON(1) or OFF(0). When a cell is charged it is ON(1) and when it's not charged it is OFF(0).
For example when we start the computer we see the company name, because it is stored in ROM and si we can't erase it.
I Hope that your concept of RAM and ROM is clear. Do suggest techie topics you want to know about in comments.
